This week PROPS North East families were treated to a trip to Northumberland Zoo, a family-run not-for-profit organisation in the heart of Northumberland

Located about 40 minutes away from Newcastle at Eshottheugh Farm, Felton, Morpeth, Northumberland, the zoo is handy for a trip out of town.

They have an interesting collection of animals – the wallabies probably felt that Northumberland was ‘home from home’ with temperatures hitting the mid-twenties and the sun baking the ground. The Snow Leopards may not have too taken with the weather. Click on the link below to see all the animals that are looked after by Northumberland Zoo’s dedicated workers and volunteers.

Katie, PROPS North East Young Peoples Family Intervention Worker, was very much taken with Dunter – The Highland Cow. Dunter was born 8 weeks premature but is doing well. “He was very snoozy – must be hard work being that cute!” said one Young Person.

“We found this mellow meerkat ‘chilling’ in the sun.” said Katie: “He was clearly enjoying himself.”

There’s lots of space to walk around and the Bear Falls café is open when you’re ready for a rest and bite to eat. One of the PROPS North East carers not only raved about the animals but claimed: “The pizza is the best I’ve ever had!” Fortunately, we had purchased plenty of lunch vouchers for seconds and much needed ice-cream.

The day was a huge success with family members from the age of 1 upwards enjoying a break in the school summer holidays, getting fresh air, exercise and making friends (human as well as animal 😊)

PROPS North East would like to thank Northumberland Zoo for making the day a success for our families. If you would like to find out more about Northumberland Zoo just click the link below.Northumberland Country Zoo | Morpeth | Near Newcastle (northumberlandzoo.co.uk)
