PROPS North East is a leading provider of specialist support to Carers and Families affected by the problematic use of alcohol or other drugs.

We are seeking an outstanding and highly motivated individual to join the Charity–:

Role: Chief Executive Officer – Newcastle & North Tyneside

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £40,000 per year

Schedule: Monday to Friday

We have an exciting opportunity for a committed Chief Executive Officer who will provide ambitious, strategic and visionary leadership to PROPS North East employees, professionals and volunteers. They will champion the organisation’s mission and values, working with the Board and Senior Management Team to ensure the long-term strategy is in place, as well as the capability to execute at pace. In conjunction with the Chair and other colleagues, the Chief Executive Officer will represent PROPS North East externally – working with and influencing a range of stakeholders, including Government, Public Health, the NHS and Drug & Alcohol Treatment services, carers services, healthcare professionals, partners, industry, supporters and the public as a whole. They will ensure that everyone associated with, or connected to, PROPS North East is respected and valued, and the charity’s commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion is prioritised and progressed.

The Role

Working closely with the Chair of the Board of Trustees, the Chief Executive Officer will:

  • Provide leadership and operational direction
  • With the Senior Management Team (SMT) be responsible for implementing the agreed strategies and achieving the business plans of the organisation, by effectively managing and developing the resources available to the organisation
  • Preparing and submitting funding applications and tenders for new contracts in line with the organisation’s strategy and mission
  • Developing effective communication and maintaining positive working relationships with key partner organisations, funders, commissioners and key stakeholders
  • Represent the organisation externally by promoting the services and values

About You

Educated to degree level, or post graduate professional qualification, or can demonstrate equivalent qualifications, skills and experience, you will have knowledge and experience of operating at a senior management level, preferably within the Charity sector.

You will have experience of:

  • Business and strategic planning, with an ability to track performance against objectives and deliver results
  • Developing and fostering close working relationships with a Board of Directors or Trustees, in particular the Chair of the Board
  • Managing and leading a team of senior managers
  • Strategic and day to day financial management, including budget preparation in partnership with the Finance Manager, monitoring and reporting
  • Previous experience and success in bid writing and securing grant funding
  • Human resource management, including recruitment, succession planning and workforce development
  • Marketing or experience in developing the commercial wing of a charity/organisation
  • Organisational legal responsibilities and requirements

Prior experience of drug and alcohol and the third sector is not essential, but PROPS North East’s Chief Executive Officer will have the curiosity and learning agility to make a rapid impact.
